GREENVILLE, N.C. --East Carolina junior Heidi Krug (Kildeer, Ill.) has been named to the first-team 2005 Academic All-America Volleyball District III University Division Team, announced today by College Sports Information Directors of America.
Krug, a biology major, was named to the first-team while compiling a cumulative GPA of 4.0. While at ECU, she has been named to the Chancellor's List all four semesters for having a GPA of 4.0. She has also made the Conference USA honor roll the past two seasons for having a 3.0 GPA or better and the 2004 C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal for having a 3.75 GPA or better. Krug was also named to the second-team 2004 Academic All-America Volleyball District III University Division Team last year.
To be eligible for the prestigious award, a player must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 in the classroom and be a starter or key reserve on the volleyball court.
Krug currently ranks second in Conference USA in assists (1,254) and assists-per-game (13.20). The junior setter needs just 15 more assists this year to set a new school record for assists in a season. Earlier this season, Krug became just the third player in school history to record two 1,000-plus assist seasons and currently ranks second all-time at ECU with 2,814 career assists. She also ranks second on the team this season in service aces (27) and third in digs (192).
The Pirates have three regular season matches remaining before heading to Houston next week to participate in the C-USA Volleyball Tournament, Nov. 17-20. ECU will host Memphis on Friday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. inside Minges Coliseum before UAB comes to town for the final regular season C-USA match of the year on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Pirates will then take on in-state rival Charlotte on Tuesday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. in Greenville.
