IRVING, Texas - East Carolina quarterback James Pinkney was named Conference USA Offensive Player-of-the-Week today for his play against UAB Saturday according to a release from the league media relations office Monday afternoon.
Pinkney accounted for 333 yards of total offense and was directly responsible for three of ECU's four touchdowns to lead the Pirates to a season-ending 31-23 win over the Blazers, capping the program's most successful season since 2001.
He completed 21-of-33 passes for 286 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for a career-high 47 yards. He added a 24-yard scoring run which helped ECU extend a one-point lead (24-23) and secure the win early in the fourth quarter. Earlier in the contest, he connected with receiver Bobby Good on a pair of scoring strikes from 55 and 15 yards out in the second and third quarters, respectively.
In addition to the Pirates' five-win season, Pinkney also enjoyed a notable junior year as he equaled an East Carolina single-season record for most 200-yard passing games (10) while passing Jeff Blake to move into third-place on the school's career passing yardage list with 5,390. In addition, he finished the campaign with 2,773 passing yards, which ranks as the second-highest total in school history
He also set ECU junior class single-season records in passing yards (2,773), total yards (2,966) and highest pass completion percentage (60.7) while completing the year with seven rushing TDs to stand third on ECU's single-season list for rushing touchdowns by a quarterback.
Pinkney's honor marked the fifth time this season that an East Carolina player has garnered the league's weekly award. In addition to his accolades for his performance against UAB, Pinkney was also cited for his play against Duke (Sept. 3) and Rice (Oct. 8) to become the league's only three-time offensive winner in 2005.
Free safety Pierre Parker captured the honor against SMU (Oct. 15) while special teams performer Markeith McQueen earned the distinction for his efforts against the Blue Devils during ECU's season opener.
