
ECU Records Second Straight Shutout This Weekend

HATTIESBURG, Miss.- East Carolina moved above .500 in Conference USA play with a 3-0 shutout win against Southern Miss Saturday night at the Payne Center. Pam Ferris led all players with 15 kills and three service aces while also finishing one dig short of her four straight double-double. With the win, the Pirates improve to 16-10 overall and 7-6 in conference play while Southern Miss falls to 6-16 on the season and 0-13 in C-USA action.
Sophomores Kelley Wernert and Mignon Dubenion also finished with double-digit kills, finishing with 13 and 12 respectively. Four Pirates hit better than .400 with Erica Wilson leading the team with a .462 hitting percentage, recording seven kills while committing just one error on 13 attempts. Trish Monroe recorded 11 of ECU's 42 team digs while Wilson led the way at the net for ECU with five block assists. Heidi Krug recorded 46 assists, extending her streak of at least 40 assists per match to 12.
Ashley Petrinec led Southern Miss with 10 kills while Morgan Johnson and Jazzmien Stephens added eight and seven respectively. Amanda Blunck led the Golden Eagle defense with eight digs while Stephens picked up one solo block and five block assists.
ECU won 30-25 in game one behind Wernert and Ferris who each picked up six kills to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead. The Pirates out-hit the Golden Eagles .478-to--.026 with ECU recording 13 kills and just two errors on 23 attack attempts while USM finished with 11 kills and 12 errors on 38 attempts. Both teams hit .211 in game three with ECU winning a close battle, 32-30.
The Pirates return home next weekend for the final two C-USA matches of the season before hosting Charlotte on Tuesday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. ECU will take on Memphis on Friday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. before hosting UAB on Sunday, Nov. 13 at 1 p.m.
