
East Carolina Downs Berry College 79-49 In Exhibition Play

GREENVILLE, N.C. - In the final tune up before the beginning of the regular season, the East Carolina women's basketball team earned a 79-49 victory over Berry College in an exhibition game held at Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum Tuesday night.
Senior Catherine Coley and freshman LaCoya Terry scored a team-high 13 points each, while Junior College transfer Cherie Mills added nine rebounds along with 10 points to lead the Lady Pirates.
With 11 players experiencing action in the contest, the importance of minutes played and conditioning in the early stages of the season, freshmen Gabriela Husarova and Terry each added eight points. Newcomer Jasmine Young played a team-high 29 minutes in the contest, while scoring five points, forcing six steals and dishing out five assists.
"We started out the first and the second half pretty well," said head coach Sharon Baldwin-Tener. "There were times when we went down a little bit but there were times and stretches that we played very well. Now we have got to extend those time periods and push it on for 40 minutes."
ECU jumped on the Lady Vikings early, assuming a 16-1 lead over the first six minutes of the game before Berry College's Mickey Duncan hit a lay-up for the first basket of the game. Matching a 15-point lead twice during the first half, the Lady Pirates closed out the half leading 37-26.
The Lady Pirates kick off the 2005-06 regular season on Saturday, Nov. 19 with a match-up against Duquesne. ECU will return to home on Saturday, Dec. 3 when they play host to the CPW's/Atavola Lady Pirate Invitational against Southern.
