GREENVILLE, N.C. - Randy Mazey, who was suspended as East Carolina University's head baseball coach October 10, has officially resigned and will leave the university.
"I enjoyed and will always appreciate the opportunity to serve our university; however, I believe this resignation is in our respective best interests," Mazey said in a letter to ECU Athletics Director Terry Holland.
Under terms of a separation agreement approved by Mazey and the ECU Board of Trustees, he will receive his $100,000 annual salary and benefits through Dec. 31, 2005. For the remaining term on his contract, until June 30, 2008, he will receive half his annual salary with no benefits.
"We wish Coach Mazey well," Holland said. "The focus of the baseball program is now exclusively back on our goal of getting to Omaha."
Billy Godwin was appointed to succeed Mazey Oct. 28 after serving in a brief interim capacity.
