HOUSTON, TEXAS -- The East Carolina women's basketball team dropped its sixth game in Conference USA play Friday night as they fell to Houston 74-52 in Hofheinz Pavilion.
The Pirates (10-15, 6-6) fell behind at the half, 37-27, and never recovered as Houston (18-7, 8-4) went on a 14-3 run to close out the half. The Cougars would extend its lead to 18, 47-29, early in the second half when Joann Overstreet and Crystal Simpson connected on back-to-back three-pointers.
Jennifer Jackson, who lead all Pirates in scoring with 17, and Amanda Mills helped ECU close the gap to 12 (51-39) with 13 minutes remaining in the game. But another run of 14-4, which included two three's by Jasmin Moore put the game out of reach.
Along with Jackson's 17, senior Shanita Sutton added 12 for her 16th double-figure game of the season while grabbing seven boards, two shy of Jackson's team-high on the night. Viola Cooper contributed with seven points and five assists and Ebonee Downey added five points and three rebounds.
Sancho Lyttle paced three Cougars in double-digits with 12 points and 16 rebounds. Joann Overstreet scored 13 and Shannon Steele added 10.
East Carolina will be back in action on Sunday afternoon when they travel to Dallas-Fort Worth to take on TCU at 3 p.m. inside Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.
