C-USA Scholar-Athlete of the Year Awards are presented to the top student-athletes in each conference-sponsored sport. The award is based upon academic achievement (GPA), athletic achievement and service.
As a senior, MacKenzie earned all-conference honors for a third straight year and was named to the Dean's List for an eighth consecutive semester. He received his bachelor's degree this past May with a degree in marketing, posting a 3.67 GPA.
During his collegiate career, MacKenzie earned C-USA Male Cross Country Athlete of the Year honors in 2003, C-USA Freshman of the Year in 2001, set school records in the 3,000 and 8,000 meters, was named the 2004 PCS Phosphate Male Scholar Athlete of the Year, and was inducted into the Golden Key Honor Society of Phi Eta Sigma. In addition, he performed hours of community service at the Boys and Girls' Club and other civic organizations.
MacKenzie was recognized as one of the top cross country athletes in C-USA history earlier this year as he was named to the Conference USA All-Decade Team.
