Chad Halverson Named Interim Head Men's Soccer Coach

GREENVILLE, NC - Chad Halverson has been named interim head men's soccer coach at East Carolina University athletic department officials announced Wednesday. Halverson takes over for Michael Benn, who was named assistant head men's soccer coach at his alma mater Lehigh University.
For the past two seasons, Halverson has served as an assistant coach under Benn at ECU.
Prior to his return to ECU in 2003, Halverson spent two seasons as assistant track & field coach and recruiting coordinator at UCF in Orlando, Fla. While with the Golden Knights, he coached two provisional national qualifiers in the heptathlon, three individual conference champions, one conference championship relay team and two regional qualifiers in the high jump.
Under his guidance, four individual and three relay (4x400, 4x100 and shuttle hurdle) school records were broken and UCF captured a pair of Atlantic Sun Conference Championships.
Before heading to UCF, Halverson built an impressive resume at various levels in the soccer world. Prior to spending three seasons with the Pirates (1999-2001) as an assistant coach, he served as the head boys' varsity soccer coach at Northview High School in Brazil, Indiana in 1998. From 1996-97, he was the assistant girls' soccer coach at Northview. He also was the co-head coach for U16 Boys' Soccer in Greenville in 2002 as well as an assistant North Carolina ODP coach.
The Rochester, Minn. native earned his bachelor of science degree in 1998 from Indiana State where he competed for the Sycamores' track and field team. He was a two-time team captain and earned All-Missouri Valley Conference honors in the high jump in 1997 (Indoor) and 1998 (Outdoor) and won the first ever Indiana State Student Athlete-of-the-Year award in 1997.
In 2001, Halverson completed his master's of education degree in athletic administration from ECU. He and his wife, Lorrie, have two children Noelle Rose (4) and Nick (7 months).
ECU Senior Associate Director of Athletics Nick Floyd stated that a full search will begin at the conclusion of the 2005 season to fill the Pirates' coaching vacancy.
