GREENVILLE, N.C.--East Carolina swept N.C. A&T, 3-0, Thursday night in Greensboro to pick up its first win of the 2005 season. The Pirates, who were led offensively by outside hitters Erica Wilson and Jaime Bevan, won by scores of 30-23, 30-20 and 36-34.
Wilson led ECU with 11 kills on 24 attempts while Bevan finished with 10 kills on 17 attempts. Bevan who recorded only one attack error while hitting .529, also picked up three block assists the lead the team.
Setter Heidi Krug recorded 37 assists to lead the Pirates while libero Trish Monroe led the way defensively with 14 digs. Outside hitters Katie Jannusch and Pam Ferris also finished with double-digit digs with both seniors finishing the match with 10.
Krug and Ferris each picked up six kills while middle blockers Kim Jefferson and Mignon Dubenion each tallied four kills on the night.
The Aggies were led by Krystal Cooper and Arlene Mitchell who each tallied eight kills. Brenden Chatman recorded 24 assists for N.C. A&T while also leading the team with 16 digs.
ECU recorded 48 kills in the match while N.C. A&T finished with 37. The Pirates hit .229 on the night, highlighted by a .333 team attack percentage in game one, while the Aggies hit .036 in the match.
ECU will travel to Boone on Friday to play in the Broyhill Inn Appalachian Classic Sept. 2-3 against High Point, Tennessee Tech and host Appalachian State. The Pirates will face App. St. Friday night at 7 p.m. before a Saturday doubleheader versus High Point at 10 a.m. and Tennessee Tech at 5 p.m. fensively by outside hitters Erica Wilson and Jaime Bevan, won by scores of 30-23, 30-20 and 36-34.
