
ECU Volleyball Travels To Third Consecutive Tournament This Weekend

GREENVILLE, N.C.--The Pirates will hit the road for the third consecutive weekend as the team travels to Spartanburg, S.C. to take on Charleston Southern and host Wofford in the Enterprise Rent-A-Car Volleyball Classic at Benjamin Johnson Arena. The Pirates will play a doubleheader on Friday, Sept. 16 against Charleston Southern at 1 p.m. and Wofford at 7 p.m.
ABOUT THE PIRATES
ECU (4-4) is coming off a 3-0 win over Chicago State last weekend at the BGSU Invitational Tournament in Bowling Green, Ohio. Pam Ferris and Katie Jannusch paced the Pirates on offense with 16 and 13 kills respectively in the win. Heidi Krug picked up 41 assists while Trish Monroe's 14 digs led ECU on the defensive end. Ferris, who has led the Pirates in kills in five of ECU's eight matches, leads the team with 110 kills thus far. The senior outside hitter is averaging 3.93 kills per game while hitting .288. She is also second on the team with 96 digs (3.43 dgp). Erica Wilson leads the team with a .297 attack percentage, collecting 80 kills and 23 errors on 192 attack attempts. Krug is averaging 12.43 assists per games, recording 348 assists in 28 games. Caitlin Daly's nine service aces leads the team while Krug has eight and Ferris and Wilson have seven. Jaime Bevan leads the ECU defense at the net with 23 total blocks while Monroe's 99 digs leads ECU defensively in that category.
ABOUT CHARLESTON SOUTHERN
The Buccaneers come into the match versus ECU on Friday with a record of 4-4. CSU is coming off of 3-2 wins over Stetson and South Alabama last weekend. Jenni Shepard and Victoria Owens lead the Charleston Southern offense with 93 and 103 kills respectively. Shepard leads the team with a .231 attack percentage while Owens tops all Buccaneers with 3.43 kills per game. Katie O'Riordan's 296 assists leads the club while Owens also leads CSU with 88 digs. Shepard and Erin Wicker have combined on 46 total blocks to lead the CSU defense.
ABOUT WOFFORD
The Terriers enter the classic with a record of 3-3, coming off losses to East Tennessee State and Western Carolina. Brittany Thompson leads the charge offensively for Wofford. Thompson leads the team in kills (78), kills per game (3.39) and attack percentage (.226). Christal Carey has 114 digs and is averaging just under five digs per game while also ranking second on the team in kills and attack percentage. Liz Sheets leads the club with 12 total blocks and Rhea DeJesus has a team-high 266 assists.
ALL-TIME SERIES
ECU is a combined 4-1 against Charleston Southern and Wofford. The Pirates hold a 2-1 advantage over the Buccaneers and a 2-0 mark over Wofford all-time. The Pirates won the last meeting with CSU, 3-0, in 1995. The last meeting between ECU and Wofford also resulted in a 3-0 Pirate victory in 1997.

ECU will finally return home after a three-week, nine-match road trip when the team hosts Tulane in the first Conference USA match of the 2005 season for the Pirates. The match against the Green Wave is set for Friday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. inside Minges Coliseum.
