
Volleyball Wins Two At Enterprise Rent-A-Car Volleyball Classic

Spartanburg, S.C. - Pirate volleyball picked up two convincing wins Friday over Charleston Southern and host Wofford at the Enterprise Rent-A-Car Volleyball Classic at Benjamin Johnson Arena. ECU topped CSU, 3-1, in the tournament opener before taking down Wofford in the classic nightcap, 3-0. Heidi Krug highlighted ECU's day with 110 assists in two matches, including a career-high 66 against CSU in the first match of the day.

Mignon Dubenion led ECU (6-4) with 13 kills while also hitting a team-best .440, committing only two errors on 25 attack attempts. Pam Ferris also recorded double-digit kills finishing with 12 on 29 attack attempts. Ferris picked up a double-double on the night, recording a team-high 14 digs in addition to her 12 kills. Trish Monroe and Johanna Bertini also played well defensively, tallying nine and eight digs respectively. Krug directed the Pirate offense with 44 assists.
Wofford (4-4) was led by Brittany Thompson and Christal Carey offensively. Thompson led the team in kills (19), attack attempts (36) and attack percentage (.417) while Carey added 10 kills on 30 attempts. Thompson was also a leader defensively for the Terriers, recording a team-high 10 digs on the night.
The Pirates out-hit the Terriers .348-to-.203 en route to the victory. ECU knocked off the Terriers in three straight games, 30-21, 30-21, 30-27.

Heidi Krug set a career-high with 66 set assists to lead the ECU offense that finished with a team attack percentage of .269. Pam Ferris, Katie Jannusch and Kelley Wernert took advantage of Krug's record-setting day with a combined 46 kills. Ferris led the way with 20 while Jannusch and Wernert each picked up 13. Trish Monroe led four players in double-figure digs with 22 while Krug and Ferris added 11 and Jannusch recorded 10. Jaime Bevan led the defense at the net with three solo blocks and four block assists. Erica Wilson led the ECU offense with a .318 attack percentage, collecting eight kills while only committing one error on 22 assists.
Victoria Owens led the Buccaneer offense with 21 kills while Jillian Worby added 12. Katie O'Riordan tallied 47 assists and eight kills while Callie Kovel led the CSU defense with 17 digs. Worby and Chrissy Barby added 11 digs to give CSU three players with double-digit digs. Canan Erdogan picked up one solo block and seven block assists while O'Riordan picked up seven block assists of her own.
The two teams split the first two games with ECU winning 30-27 in the first game before Charleston Southern tied it up with a 30-22 win in the second game. The Pirates regained momentum and won the final two games, 30-23 and 30-25.
The Pirates will have the week off before finally returning home after a nine-match road trip to take on C-USA foe Tulane, Friday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. inside Minges Coliseum.
