ECU Head Coach Ricky Stokes
On Tonight's Game
"Playing at home, I was disappointed with our effort defensively. We did not play with a lot of intensity and getting down by nine and coming back takes a lot of energy from you."
"I thought we had a great look at things in the second half. We were getting the ball close to the basket, but it just wouldn't go in."
"We are going to have to be able to make some perimeter shots if we want to effective, and tonight we were not able to do that."
On The Overtime Period
"We kind of lost our composure in overtime, but give SMU a lot of credit because they played very well, made some shots and with their big guy inside kept us from making a lot of shots."
On Shutting Down Bryan Hopkins In The Second Half
"We knew that [Hopkins] was a tremendous shooter and that we would have to force him to put the ball on the floor. In the first half we did not play as tenacious as we needed to, but in the second half we did play harder on defense."
On The Low Shooting Percentage
"We expect to shoot better at home and we did not shoot well tonight. We do practice shooting every day, and bad shooting is nobody's fault, but when you are not shooting well there are still other things you can do.
"When good teams are shooting bad they continue to play better and play through it, and hopefully we will learn from it and play better."
SMU Head Coach Jimmy Tubbs
On the game...
"I thought it was a very tough ballgame for both teams and I also felt that East Carolina played very well also"
"The game could have gone either way. We watched them on film against Memphis and against UTEP. We knew what type of ball club that they offered."
"I thought our kids did a really good job coming back to force overtime."
On Brian Morris...
"Brian is a freshman and I think that he played very well tonight. He is a very aggressive basketball player. He had to guard Rouse, which is very hard to do."
ECU Guard Jeremy Ingram
"Any loss is tough; it started with the first half. We didn't come out and play East Carolina basketball. We didn't come out with the right intensity and the right enthusiasm. That is something that it takes to win a basketball game."
"We know it is important to get your conference wins at home and we weren't able to get this one."
ECU Forward Jonathan Hart
"I felt as though we didn't dive on the floor. We didn't play with that intensity. We have to keep our head up the whole game."
"We have to be hungry, like coach Ferguson says. We have to get these wins."
