GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina women's basketball team began its fifth year in the Sharon Baldwin-Tener era Friday night in the squad's first practice of the 2006-07 season.
The Lady Pirates practiced for two hours Friday night at J.H. Rose High School. "I was pleasantly surprised with the aggressiveness of our first practice," Baldwin-Tener said. "As most first practices go, there were a lot of turnovers, but the effort and intensity of the players is where we need it to be."
ECU returns nine letterwinners and four starters off last years squad that tallied a 17-12 record, the team's best finish in 14 years. Joining the team this season will be freshmen Lauren Cochran, Erica Crumlin and Shana Franks. Cochran and Crumlin will play the forward/center position while Franks will share time with returning sophomore Jasmine Young at the point guard position.
The Lady Pirates will hold its annual Purple-Gold game on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 1:00 p.m. as part of the ECU Homecoming festivities. The regular season begins Nov. 12 as ECU travels to Harrisonburg, Va. for a 2:00 p.m. tilt against James Madison.
