HARRISONBURG, Va. - The East Carolina women's basketball tips off the 2006-07 season Sunday afternoon against former CAA foe James Madison. The Lady Pirates, who are looking for their second straight winning season, take on the Dukes for just the second time as non-conference foes.
The Lady Pirates return four starters off last year's squad, including last seasons leading scorer and rebounder Cherie Mills (16.1 ppg., 7.6 rpg.) and C-USA Co-Freshman-of-the-Year Jasmine Young. ECU averaged 64.6 points per game last season, grabbing 39.8 rebounds a contest.
James Madison opens its season today as well. JMU finished the 2005-06 season with a 24-7 overall record, 14-4 in CAA action, advancing to the WNIT. The Dukes return all five starters from a year ago, with Meredith Alexis returning as the teams' top scorer (16.0) and rebounder (10.9).
Tip-off from the JMU Convocation Center is set for 2:00 p.m.
