ECU Head Coach Ricky Stokes
On The Game
"I have to give Morgan State a lot of credit, they played extremely hard and they have some terrific talent. I also want to give our kids credit because we didn't play real well early but we made some adjustments at halftime defensively and played a lot better in the second half. "
On The Play Of The Freshmen
"John Fields and Gabe Blair played very well. I think this freshman class is going to be terrific and has a bright future ahead of them. I know they're going to have ups and downs because they're freshmen, but tonight they played very well and played with great attitude and passion."
On Darrell Jenkins' Performance
"We were very pleased with Darrell. He is just such a terrific leader and competitor and keeps this team together. He can make things happen out on the floor and can make the open shot. He's just going to continue to get better."
On The Crowd
"It was a loud place and the students really got into it in the second half and helped us out emotionally. I want to thank the fans for coming out; it's been a long day. Congratulations to Skip and the football team also."
Morgan State's Head Coach Todd Bozeman
On Playing East Carolina
"We have to tip our hats to East Carolina. Ricky had his team ready to play. When I spoke before the game, I viewed it as a blind date. Neither one of us knew a whole lot about each other. Obviously for us the blind date turned out bad, for them it was good. East Carolina's freshmen did a good job. My one freshman did well, but he played like a freshman and didn't come out the second half. East Carolina did a good job. To have freshman step up and play like that was big."
On Darrell Jenkins
"I heard about him. I heard he could really shoot the ball. That part doesn't surprise me. What surprises me was his 12 assists and that he could distribute the ball."
On Morgan State's Play in the Second Half
"I thought our inability to guard them on the perimeter. We just kind of broke down. We had a stretch there in the first half, when we had an opportunity to take control of the game. We had opportunities to put our self in a good position, but we obviously didn't take advantage of them. There were little things that plagued us to start the season out."
ECU Guard Darrell Jenkins
"I was looking to get my teammates involved first. I was making sure I distributed the ball, as a point guard I should, but if I have a wide open shot or a man's hands are down, I'm going to shoot it. We have a great team. We like each other, we share the ball. I have faith in my teammates. We're a good team, we work hard. It feels great to win."
ECU Guard Jeremy Ingram
"We have a group of talented guys on this ball club. I'm excited just to be a part of it. It was the first game for some of the new guys. They fit in well with the program. They came out and played exactly how they play in practice. They played hard. That's what Coach Stokes stresses to us, playing hard."
