GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina University senior quarterback James Pinkney has been selected to participate in the 2007 All-American Classic College All-Star Game, to be played January 15, 2007 at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The All-American Classic features more than 100 college all-stars competing in an East vs. West format and will kick off at 4 p.m. EST in front of a NFL Network television audience. Seventy-eight of the 100 players in the 2006 Classic found themselves on NFL Training Camp rosters last summer.
Pinkney, a native of Delray Beach, Fla., has established himself as one the great quarterbacks at East Carolina ranking first all-time in 200-yard passing games (22), second in passing yards (7,745) and completions (655), third in pass attempts (1,118) and fourth in career touchdown passes. He has started 35 consecutive games under center, which ranks as the fifth longest consecutive streak in the nation.
On the season, Pinkney has guided the Pirates to a 6-4 overall record, which includes a Conference USA East Division-leading 5-2 mark. He has thrown for 2,355 yards on 200-of-326 passing with eight touchdowns and a 61.3 pass completion percentage. He racked up 422 total yards (391 passing and 31 rushing) against SMU Oct. 21, which marked the third-best single-game total offensive performance in school history. His 391 passing yards and 31 completions also set new career-highs.
As a participant in the sixth-annual All-American Classic, Pinkney will play on the East squad under the direction of former NFL head coach Buddy Ryan.
Pinkney is the third Pirate to participate in the All-American Classic (Jerry Dillon and Clayton Driver in 1993) and the only member of the 2006 team thus far to be invited to a post-season all-star game.
