GREENVILLE, N.C. --- East Carolina made seven first half 3s, shot 57 percent from the floor and rolled to a 19-point halftime lead en route to an 80-54 win over Limestone here Tuesday night, extending the Pirates' winning streak over non-Division I teams to 20 games.
Junior Darrell Jenkins lead four Pirates in double figures with a game-high 17 points. Jenkins also distributed 10 assists for his second double-double of the season. He was a perfect 4-for-4 from behind the arc prior to halftime, helping ECU (3-1) to a 7-for-10 first half shooting performance from 3-point range.
Freshman John Fields scored 13 points to reach double figures for the second time in his young career, but it was his defensive performance that left an impression.
Fields blocked five first half shots and finished with seven total blocks, just one shy of the school record held by former Pirate Moussa Badiane. Fields has blocked 12 shots in the past two games and leads Conference USA in total blocks, 15, this season.
Senior Courtney Captain netted 11 points in the victory, while freshman Gabe Blair added 10 points.
Terrell Smith scored 15 points to pace Limestone, while Shawn Poppie added 12 points.
The Pirates scored the game's first seven points and raced out to an 18-point lead less than 12 minutes into the game, 27-9.
Limestone (2-1) cut ECU's lead to 12 with 3:51 remaining in the first half, but ECU went on a 9-2 run to close the half and held a 43-24 lead at the break.
ECU maintained its double digit lead throughout the second half, never allowing Limestone to get closer than 15 points, while leading by as many as 28 points.
The Pirates finished the game shooting 45.2 percent from the field, while holding the Saints to just 28.6 percent shooting.
ECU returns to action Sunday, November 26, against NC Central. Tip-off is scheduled for approximately 3:30 p.m. in Greenville.
