Rigoberto Lugo Signs NLI With ECU Baseball

GREENVILLE, N.C. - Rigoberto Lugo from the Puerto Rico Baseball Academy has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to play baseball at East Carolina in 2008, head baseball coach Billy Godwin announced today.
Lugo, a native of Caguas, Puerto Rico and the first ever Pirate signee from the Puerto Rico Baseball Academy, will join Derrick Conatser, Cameron Freeman, Matt Hancock, Dustin Harrington, Daniel Holder, Matt Laney, Seth Maness, Brad Mincey, Sthil Sowers and Trent Whitehead as members of the 2008 signing class.
"We are excited about the signing Rigoberto Lugo," said Godwin. "He is a power throwing right-handed pitcher with a hard, late breaking ball that has also been clocked at 92 mph. Lugo is a tremendous athlete who has also shown the ability to play in the outfield and will be a great fit for our program."
The Pirates, who begin spring practice on Jan. 10, 2007, will host Liberty in the season opener on Feb. 9 at Lewis Field inside Clark-LeClair Stadium at 3 p.m. (EST).
