GREENVILLE, N.C. - After earning its seventh win of the season with a 21-16 victory over North Carolina State Saturday, East Carolina University has earned unconditional qualifying status for one of five Conference USA bowl affiliations, according to an announcement from the league office Sunday.
Conference USA is expected to release its 2006 bowl tie-in invitations later this week, which include the AutoZone Liberty Bowl (Memphis, Tenn.), the GMAC Bowl (Mobile, Ala.), the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl (Fort Worth, Texas), the PapaJohns.com Bowl (Birmingham, Ala.) and the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl.
Once the Pirates are notified of their invitation by the league office, venue ticket, travel and event information will be made available and distributed to fans by the ECU Department of Athletics via its official website - www.ECUPirates.com - and by all Pirate Mail accounts.
The Pirates will be making their 13th bowl appearance in program history, seventh since 1990 and first since facing off against Marshall in the 2001 GMAC Bowl.
East Carolina (7-5) will join Houston (9-3), Southern Miss (8-4), Tulsa (8-4) and Rice (7-5) as other unconditional bowl qualifiers from C-USA.
