ECU Head Coach Ricky Stokes
On The Game
"Central really packed their zone in and forced us to shoot outside shots. We were a little anxious early but we made a couple shots and the basket started to look bigger and the crowd got into it and we did well offensively."
On the ECU Defense
"I really challenged our guards before the game to play good defense and they were up to challenge. I have to give our guards a lot of credit for their defensive tenacity and I thought that was a key to the game."
On the ECU depth
"We've been able to substitute off the bench and use it as one of our strengths. Guys like Jeremy Ingram, Cory Farmer, Brandon Evans and Justin Ramsey are valuable to our team coming off the bench. Justin played good today. He's big, he's strong and he's going to have to utilize that for us to be successful. And the best thing about this team is we only have one senior so the future is bright for these young guys."
On the play of Courtney Captain
"Courtney played very well today. He had 16 points, six rebounds and three assists in 28 minutes. We don't like to see our players play over 30 minutes in a game so for him to play 28 minutes and put up those numbers is great for the team."
Guard Courtney Captain
"The first half we were not making a lot of shots. We had a lot of open shots. During half time coach got on us really hard. We were playing good defense, holding them to a low amount of points. We just weren't making shots in the first half."
"We just try to improve our play every day at practice. We want to get better. When it comes to game time everyone just has one goal, to win."
Forward John Fields
"I feel like I am maturing as a player offensively. Now I feel like I'm adding a scoring threat to my game."
North Carolina Central Coach Henry Dickerson
"I'm glad that Coach Stokes and Coach McCarthy gave us the opportunity to come down here and play. Schools like East Carolina take a chance when they play a Division II school. If we win we get pats on the back, if East Carolina loses it is tough on them. East Carolina has got a lot of young and athletic people, I'm sure they will go through some aches and pains, but I think the future is bright."
"Most times when Division II schools play Division I the first couple minutes of the first and second half you get your doors blown off. I feel like we withstood that so I thought we could stay in the game. But ECU did knock down some threes and really changed the momentum of the game. Then we had to get out of our defense and do more trapping and gambling then we would like to and they took advantage of it."
