
Heidi Krug Named to Academic All-District Team

GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina senior Heidi Krug (Kildeer, Ill.) has been named to the first-team 2006 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Volleyball District III University Division Team, announced today by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Krug, a senior biology major, is a three-time Conference USA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll and Commissioner's Academic Medal recipient, while compiling an overall GPA of 4.00. In addition, she was named the 2005-06 Conference USA Scholar Athlete of the Year and has placed on the Academic All-America team for the past two seasons, including being named to the first team last year.
To be eligible for the prestigious award, a player must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 in the classroom and be a starter or key reserve on the volleyball court. Krug has played in 28 of the Pirates' 29 matches this season as the teams primary setter, and leads the team in assists (1276), averaging 12.63 per game.
On October 13th at Southern Miss, Heidi passed Lisa Donovan to become ECU's all time leader in assists, and holds a career assists total of 4,346 assists with one regular season match to play.
For her efforts on the court this season, Krug has been named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 11 and Conference USA Setter-of-the-Week on Oct .16.
With her selection to the District III first-team, Krug will now be placed on the national CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot.
