GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina women's soccer players Amber Campbell and Sarah Kirkley both received post-season accolades for their stellar play throughout the 2006 season. Goalkeeper Amber Campbell was named Soccer Buzz Third Team All-South and was also honored as the N.C. all-state goalkeeper after posting a 0.73 goals against average. Midfielder Sarah Kirkley was named to the Soccer Buzz All-South Freshmen Team.
Campbell has received numerous awards throughout the 2006 campaign. Most notably, she was named Co-National Player of the Week during the last week of the regular season, while also being named to the Soccer Buzz Elite Team of the Week.
"Amber had a great season and she is only a sophomore," said head coach Rob Donnenwirth. "Amber's confidence level is growing with every game and she made some big saves at crucial times."
Kirkley, a Raleigh N.C. native, led the team in assists with 10. On a national scale, Kirkley was ranked 16th in the nation in assists per game. Kirkley was also named to the C-USA All-Freshman Team.
"I think it was obvious from the beginning that Sarah was going to be an immediate impact," Donnenwirth said. "She was voted the team MVP as a freshmen by her teammates, which says a lot. I'm looking forward to three more great years from her."
