GREENVILLE, N.C. - "Senior Day" at East Carolina didn't end in the celebratory fashion that the Pirates hoped. Instead, the Pirates walked off the floor after suffering their 11th Conference USA loss of the season as Tulane scored a 66-53 win over ECU here Saturday night.
While senior Corey Rouse, the league's top rebounder, didn't leave Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum with a win, he did walk out of the arena with his 15th double-double of the season finishing with game-high 17 points and 11 rebounds.
David Gomez led Tulane (10-15, 5-7) with 15 points, while Quincy Davis added 13 and Ryan Williams chipped in 11.
ECU (8-18, 2-11) rallied from a 10-point first half deficit to take a one-point halftime lead, 30-29, as it ended the first half on an 11-0 run capped by a jumper in the lane by junior Japhet McNeil.
The two teams traded baskets over the first five minutes of the second half before Tulane went on an 18-5 run to seize an 11-point lead with 6:54. Chris Moore put the Green wave ahead to stay with a 3-pointer with 12:44 left in the game.
The second half saw the team's go in opposite directions as Tulane increased its shooting percentage by making 11-of-19 shots for 57.9 percent, while ECU made just 8-of-29 second half attempts for 27.6 percent.
The Pirates' deficit eventually increased to 16, 66-50, with 1:18 to play. A free throw by freshman Sam Hinnant and a lay up by sophomore Jonathan Hart determined the final margin.
