GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics will celebrate the life of Keith LeClair on Friday, July 21 beginning at 6:00 p.m. at Clark-LeClair Stadium. LeClair, ECU's head baseball coach from 1997 to 2002, passed away Monday after a five-year battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, commonly referred to as ALS or Lou Gehrig's Disease.
As part of the celebration program, many of LeClair's former players, coaches and other colleagues will be invited to share brief memories and testimonials of his life. In addition, video and slideshow tributes on the stadium's PirateVision board will chronicle LeClair's accomplishments and contributions to East Carolina University and its baseball program.
Everyone is encouraged to dress casually due to anticipated high temperatures and welcome to bring their own refreshments if they desire. Bottled water and soft drinks will be available at the stadium concession stand with all proceeds going to the ALS Association (Jim "Catfish" Hunter Chapter) and SPORTworks Ministry.
Complimentary seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis in the purple chair-back and grandstand areas while parking will be available in the Clark-LeClair, Jungle (leftfield), Purple (adjacent to the Ward Sports Medicine Building) and White (practice soccer field, accessible via Fieldside Drive) Lots. In addition, fans can also park on the west side of Charles Boulevard in the Allied Health Lot.
A memorial service will be held earlier in the day at 2:00 p.m. inside Oakmont Baptist Church, located at 1100 Red Banks Road. The family will receive friends Thursday evening between 5:00 and 8:00 p.m. at S.G. Wilkerson and Sons Funeral Home (2100 East Fifth Street).
