GREENVILLE, N.C. - For the first time this season, East Carolina headed out for its daily afternoon practice session wearing shoulder pads before the Pirates completed their third workout of the fall camp at the Cliff Moore Practice Complex Sunday.
The Pirates, who started fall practice Friday, Aug. 4, will follow Sunday's practice with single workouts at the practice facility through Tuesday before conducting the first of three two-a-day periods Wednesday, Aug. 9.
Head coach Skip Holtz and staff guided ECU through a traditional three-hour practice which emphasized all facets of offensive and defensive team work, including repetitions with the Pirates' schemes and alignments. ECU closed the workout with a five minute scrimmage period with the third and fourth offensive and defensive units.
"The intensity level was very high today," said Holtz. "I liked the excitement and enthusiasm that the team showed coming out in shoulder pads. In just three practices we have come a long way and I can't wait until we put on the full pads."
The Pirates will spend Monday's workout in shoulder pads and shorts before putting on full gear for the first time Tuesday afternoon.
NOTES: Monday's Practice Time: 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.; Season Opener: Sept. 2 vs. Navy (5:30 p.m.)
