GREENVILLE, N.C. - Freshman Brittany Copeland won her third meet in three tries this season as she led the East Carolina women's cross country team to a second place finish at the ECU Pirate Invitational at Lake Kristi on Saturday morning. She set a personal-best with a time of 17:59, eclipsing her previous mark of 18:22 set at NC State two weeks ago. The Pirates finished second of four teams, just 14 points behind ACC foe Clemson. The ECU men also took second, led by junior Matt Dennish who turned in a time of 26:45. It was a record-setting day as the entire men's team set personal-bests while the top-five women also posted career marks.
Sophomore Nicole Briggs also tallied a top-10 finish, as she posted a ninth-place result with a time of 18:34. Rounding out the top-five runners were Samantha Lichtner (11th, 18:59), Tayleigh Davis (13th, 19:16) and Hollie Brooks (15th, 19:22).
Sophomore Jarrett Newby took second among the ECU men, notching a 13th-place finish with a time of 26:57. Also in the top-five were Andrew Nastasiak (18th, 28:04), Nick Boerio (21st, 29:06) and Michael Scott (22nd, 29:08).
