
Wernert Earns First-Team All-Conference USA Honors

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - For the second consecutive season, senior Kelley Wernert has earned a spot on the Conference USA first team as announced by the league in advance of the conference tournament in Huntington, W.Va.
The Hoffman Estates, Ill. native currently leads the team in kills, kills per game, attempts, aces, aces per game, solo blocks, total blocks and points per game. Additionally, Wernert ranks third in the conference in kills per game and second in points per game.
The senior holds the school record for kills for a match in program history, a 31-kill effort against UNC Wilmington on Sept. 11, which helped her earn national player of the week from cvu.com on Sept. 16. She has garnered several other honors this year, including preseason C-USA honors, all-tournament accolades at Duke, NC State and George Washington, tournament-MVP honors at George Washington and C-USA Offensive Player-of-the-Week (Sept. 17).
The Pirates are the eighth-seed in the C-USA Tournament and begin their quest for an NCAA automatic bid as they face off against ninth-seeded SMU today at 5 p.m. The winner advances to play host and top-seed Marshall on Friday.
For the first time in league history, C-USA will have each championship match broadcasted via radio. WMUL out of Huntington, W.Va. will carry all 11 matches on 88.1 FM and will be available over the internet at www.conferenceusa.com/championships/07-w-volley-tourney.html.
