Stokes Postgame Press Conference (Audio Quotes)
ECU Coach Ricky Stokes
"First of all let me congratulate our fans. It was so special to have 5500 fans tonight. I have been coaching for about 20 years and think our fans are just amazing. They were a big part of our success tonight. It just warms my heart for our students to come out and support us."
"To our players, I think it is a testament of their perseverance and effort. I am sure they hear things that people say about them but this is a special group of guys. I enjoy coming to practice every day where we try to get better and learn.
"I think it was a great effort. They battled out there. They got up; they got down and still took the opportunity to battle back. It speaks volumes of their character. They stick together, have faith in each other and believe in one another."
"What a big time shot for Courtney Captain. It was nice to finally see a great execution of a play. I am just happy for that group of young men in that locker room."
"We executed better tonight. We made free throws and rebounded better than in previous games. This group of guys will continue to get better."
Senior guard Courtney Captain
On the last play
"I knew that coach was going to call the play for me; being senior night and what not. Darrell [Jenkins] had good penetration and Brandon Evans set a real good screen and I was sitting there waiting for the ball. I knew it was going to go in. The whole play was executed perfect."
On his last game
"I want to thank the crowd. The crowd has been helping us the whole year and tonight we had good attendance. We knew that we had to come out and play real had and emotions were big. I saw it on coach Stokes' face at the beginning but I didn't want to cry. I wanted to cry at the end and it was a good cry. I'm just happy we won. I went out on a good note thanks to my teammates."
On making so may shots "My adrenaline was pumping because I wanted to win so bad. I shot the ball and didn't even think about it going in because I knew it was."
Junior guard Darrell Jenkin
On the last play
"That's my game I am very unselfish. I would rather get the assist than score. I saw that my man [Courtney Captain] was open and I gave it to him and I knew that it was going in. I had faith and I'm glad I gave it to him."
On getting a win
"Not only did we want to win this game for Courtney, but also for coach Stokes and the staff. They work so hard to get us prepared. They are a real good staff and they are good men. Coach Stokes is real passionate about this team and winning and when we see that, we want to do it for him also."
