IRVING, Texas --- Twelfth-seeded East Carolina will take on fifth-seeded Tulsa Wednesday at 9:30 p.m. EST in the first round of the 2007 Conference USA Men's Basketball Championship presented by Aéropostale, March 7-10, at FedExForum in Memphis, Tenn.
The winner will face No. 4 seed Tulane Thursday night at 9:30 p.m in the quarterfinals.
The Pirates suffered a 67-49 loss to the Golden Hurricane in Tulsa on January 10 to open conference play. Junior Darrell Jenkins led ECU with 15 points, while TU guard Rod Earls led all scorers with 25 points, hitting 7-of-9 3-point attempts. The Pirate trailed by one at halftime, 33-32, but after shooting 60 percent in the first half shot just 29.4 percent after halftime and were outscored 34-17.
Regular season champion Memphis will be the No. 1 seed. As the top seed, Memphis will have a first-round bye at the tournament. Other teams receiving first-round byes include No. 2 UCF, No. 3 Houston and No. 4 Tulane. Other Wednesday first round match-ups feature: No. 7 Rice vs. No. 10 UTEP at 1 p.m., No. 6 Southern Miss vs. No. 11 SMU at 3:30 p.m., and No. 8 Marshall vs. No. 9 UAB at 7 p.m. ET.
In Thursday's quarterfinal round, No. 2 UCF will take on the winner of the Rice- UTEP game at 1 p.m. and No. 3 Houston will face the winner of the Southern Miss-SMU match-up beginning at 3:30 p.m. No. 1 seed Memphis will take on the winner of the Marshall-UAB game at 7 p.m.
The quarterfinal and semifinal rounds will be televised by CSTV with Saturday's championship game scheduled to air on CBS at 11:30 a.m.
