GREENVILLE, N.C. - For the second consecutive year, the East Carolina Department of Athletics will open a new football season with a school-record mark in season ticket sales.
Since the passing of a May 1 priority renewal deadline a few weeks ago, ECU has already received orders for 16,476 season tickets, surpassing the previous standard of 16,318 set in 2006. Current orders have also exceeded last year's pre-summer milestone by nearly 40 percent with over 4,700 additional season tickets sold in comparison to the 11,713 generated in mid-May prior to Skip Holtz' second season heading the Pirate program
"There has been a lot of excitement around this team and the direction Coach Holtz is moving the program," Assistant Director of Athletics for Tickets & Marketing Scott Wetherbee said. "When you combine that with the caliber of opponents we face at home this year, it's easy to see how ticket sales have improved."
Highlighting East Carolina's 2007 home schedule are clashes against in-state Atlantic Coast Conference members North Carolina and N.C. State at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium, scheduled for September 8 and October 20, respectively. In addition, the Pirates will face off against Conference USA East Division champion Southern Miss, along with UCF, UAB and Tulane.
"At the rate season tickets are selling, few single game tickets may be available later in the year," Wetherbee added, indicating that the option to pay for tickets with a monthly plan and the convenience of ordering online have helped with the soaring sales rate as well.
Tickets may be purchased online at www.ecupirates.com or by calling the ECU Athletics Ticket Office at 1-800-DIAL-ECU.
