GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina designated hitter Kyle Roller picked up more accolades Monday afternoon as he was named to the Inaugural Ping!Baseball All-Freshman Team with his second-team selection.
Roller, who was named to the Conference USA All-Freshman Team, started 28-of-39 games played, batted .306 with 30 RBI and shared the team lead in home runs with 11.
The Rockingham, N.C. native drove in a career-best six runs against UCF (4/13) one shy of the school record in helping the Pirates (40-23) to a three-game sweep over the Knights at Clark-LeClair Stadium. He also batted .700 (7-for-10) in the series with a pair of home runs, nine RBI and slugged 1.300.
On the season, Roller had 10 multi-hit and nine multi-RBI games, collected three game-winning RBI's and established a personal-best seven game hit streak from May 11 through May 19 where he had five multi-hit games. He also had a pair of stretches where he smacked home runs in four consecutive games with an at-bat (4/13-21 and 5/12-17).
Roller will spend the summer playing for the Thomasville HiToms in the Coastal Plain Wood Bat League.
