
Kyle Roller Named CPL Co-Hitter-of-the-Week

RALEIGH, N.C. - The Coastal Plain League announced today that Thomasville's Kyle Roller and Joe Luli and Jesse Barbaro of Florence were named the Rawlings Tri-Hitters of the Week, while Peninsula's Sean Ray, Edenton's J.P. Primus and Brandon Scott of Wilson were honored as Rawlings Tri-Pitchers of the Week for week six of action (July 9 - July 14).
Roller, a freshman from East Carolina batted .542 through six starts for the HiToms, finishing with 13 hits, including a pair of doubles and homers. He had six RBI and three runs scored, as well as a league-best 21 total bases. Furthermore, Roller sported a .875 slugging percentage and .560 on-base percentage.
Meanwhile, Luli, a junior from Mercyhurst, started five games for the RedWolves on the week, finishing with a .474 average. Of his nine hits, one was a double and another for a home run, as he went on to tally two runs scored, a league-best 10 RBIs and 13 total bases. Luli also notched a .684 slugging percentage to go with a .500 on-base percentage and was walked once.
Also in Florence, Barbaro had an impressive week, finishing with a .412 average through five starts. In that time, the sophomore from Lander connected on seven hits, including two doubles and a homer, while also scoring seven runs and picking up seven RBIs. Barbaro racked up 12 total bases to go with a .706 slugging percentage and .583 on-base percentage. Furthermore, he was walked seven times on the week.
On the mound, Ray made two appearances for the Pilots, pitching seven complete innings. The 6-0, 180-pound freshman lefty from Auburn surrendered only two runs, unearned, on three hits, while walking two and striking out nine to earn the win against Petersburg on the road and keep a perfect 0.00 ERA.
In Edenton, Primus, a 6-0, 185-pound righthander, also featured a perfect 0.00 ERA and 1-0 record on the week. The junior from North Carolina A&T went six innings, giving up only four hits and an unearned run, while walking none and striking out seven.
Finally, Scott, a junior from Campbell made two appearances on the week for the Tobs, earning both a win and a save. The 6-2, 190-pound junior righthander went 5 1/3 innings on the mound, and only walked five while striking out seven. Even more impressive was that opposing batters hit .000 against him. Numbers like those earned Scott a perfect 0.00 ERA. The honor was Scott's third of the season and the second time he was selected as a CPL Rawlings Pitcher of the Week as he was selected back in week two.
The Coastal Plain League is the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league, now in its 11th season. Featuring 15 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia, the CPL is certified by Major League Baseball, and gives college players the chance to refine their skills with wooden bats during the summer months.
