
San Jose's Witter Has Giant Night

Adam Witter homered twice and drove in a season-high six runs Friday to power the San Jose Giants to a 12-5 triumph over the Modesto Nuts at John Thurman Field.
Witter blasted a three-run shot in the first inning and a two-run homer, his seventh, during a three-run third that extended the Giants' lead to 6-2. He popped out in the sixth but doubled and scored in the seventh and lined an RBI single in the ninth.
The 24-year-old catcher went 4-for-5 with four runs scored, falling a triple shy of the cycle. He plated five runs on June 9 against Lake Elsinore and has three homers and 10 RBIs in his last three games.
Witter homered twice in his Minor League debut last June 19 and again on Aug. 10 with Salem-Keizer of the Northwest League. He hit for the cycle and drove in a career-best seven runs last Aug. 29.
In 2006, Witter shared the league lead with 16 homers and topped the circuit with a .585 slugging percentage.
Travis Ishikawa went 2-for-2 with an RBI and four runs scored and William Thompson and Anthony Contreras each drove in two runs for San Jose (9-7).
Reliever Kelvin Pichardo (2-3) struck out four over 2 2/3 scoreless innings for the win. Starter Joseph Martinez gave up four runs on nine hits and a walk with three strikeouts over 4 1/3 frames.
Nuts starter Chaz Roe (3-9) yielded six runs on four hits and two walks with four strikeouts over three frames.
Jeff Kindel went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs for Modesto (8-8), which had a five-game winning streak snapped. Christopher Nelson and Neil Wilson each plated a run.
