GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina football team can expect a packed house for every game at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium this season after the school sold all of its 22,000 season tickets Monday for the first time in school history.
"Selling out our season tickets is truly exciting for our football program, the university and the community as a whole," ECU Director of Athletics Terry Holland said. "The enthusiasm this generates within our community is important and the financial impact on all of eastern North Carolina can not be overlooked.
"This could not have happened without the cooperation of our sister institutions, UNC and N.C. State. Having both of these institutions playing here in Greenville in ECU's Centennial Year of 2007 is a historic occasion."
While the Sept. 8 game with North Carolina and the Oct. 20 contest with N.C. State certainly ignited sales, the sellout of season tickets also means there will be no individual tickets available for either game in the 43,000-seat stadium.
"There will be no single game tickets for these games since both teams will use the full allotment of 5,000 tickets reserved for the visiting teams," Holland said, "and our students will use all 12,000 allotted for their use."
Holland added that there will be single game tickets available for most of the other games on the schedule because the visiting Conference USA teams will not use their entire 5,000-ticket allotment. Those tickets are currently on sale at the ECU Athletics Ticket Office and can be purchased in person, online or by calling 1-800-DIAL-ECU.
"We expect most games to be sold out," Holland said. "So, I encourage those who missed on season tickets to purchase the single game tickets we have remaining as soon as possible."
Along with the Tar Heels and Wolfpack, the Pirates will host Southern Miss (Sept. 15), UCF (Oct. 6), UAB (Oct. 27) and Tulane (Nov. 24).
