GREENVILLE, N.C. - With the start of the Pirates' 2007 football season just four weeks away, the East Carolina University Athletics Ticket Office has eclipsed the 20,500 mark in season ticket sales and is quickly closing in on a sellout - a first in school history.
By reaching its latest milestone, ECU now has less than 1,500 season tickets available before exhausting its allotment of 22,000 that are available for purchase each year. Season ticket packages will continue to be available through the annual "Meet The Pirates" event Saturday, August 18 or until a sellout occurs.
"For the first time in the history of our football program, we are on the doorstep of a huge landmark," ECU Assistant Director of Athletics for Ticketing & Marketing Scott Wetherbee said. "To be able to tell our fans and fellow conference members that we have sold all our season tickets and reached sellout status of two games prior to the start of the season would certainly be a great accomplishment and send a strong message".
While Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium's capacity is officially listed at 43,000, the remaining tickets are reserved for visiting team and student allotments, players and coaches.
East Carolina established an all-time high of 16,318 season ticket sales last year during Skip Holtz' second season guiding the Pirates, surpassing the previous record of 16,173 set in 2000.
Due to the high demand for season tickets, individual home game tickets will only be made available to Pirate Club members beginning Monday, August 6. All seating will be assigned using the Pirate Club Priority Point System. Membership levels start at $75.00 and information can be obtained by calling (252) 737-4540 or visiting www.ECUPirateClub.com
Highlighting East Carolina's 2007 home schedule are clashes against in-state Atlantic Coast Conference members North Carolina and NC State at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium, scheduled for September 8 and October 20, respectively. In addition, the Pirates will face off against Conference USA East Division champion Southern Miss, along with UCF, UAB and Tulane.
Tickets may be purchased online at www.ECUPirates.com or by calling the ECU Athletics Ticket Office at 1-800-DIAL-ECU.
