
Lady Pirates Win Third In A Row

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Four Lady Pirates scored in double figures to lead East Carolina to an 86-70 win at Southern Miss Thursday evening. The win marks the third in a row for ECU, and the first on the road in league play this season. East Carolina improves to 9-11, 3-4 in Conference USA, while the Lady Eagles fall to 11-9, 2-5 in league play.
East Carolina opened the game, scoring the first four points before Southern Miss tied the game at 4-4. The game was tied one more time at 6-6, before the Lady Pirates reeled off seven unanswered points, taking a 13-6 lead. From there, ECU outscored Southern Miss, 17-4, over seven minutes for a 30-10 lead. Southern Miss could not get on track before the half and trailed, 45-21.
East Carolina led by as many as 27 points, 54-27, three and a half minutes into the second half. The Lady Pirates were able to maintain a substantial lead much of the second half on 63.2 percent shooting.
With ECU leading, 69-47, Southern Miss used a 10-3 run to cut the lead to 15 points with 4:09 remaining, 72-57. Six of the 10 points came from the line. Southern Miss continued to try and make a game of it. After ECU pushed its lead to 77-57, the Lady Eagles, then, used a 13-5 outburst to get within 12 points (82-70) with 1:10 remaining.
ECU closed out the game on 4-of-6 from the line. East Carolina also controlled the boards, out rebounding Southern Miss, 44-31, and finished the game shooting 52.6 percent from the field, including 50 percent from behind the arc.
LaCoya Terry led all scorers with a season-high 27 points on 10-of-14 shooting from the field. Allison Spivey added 17 points, one shy of her career-high, adding eight rebounds. Young had 16 points and Gabriela Husarova added a personal-best 14 points, adding three assists.
The Lady Pirates continue their road trip, as they head to UCF Saturday, Feb. 2. Tip-off is slated for 5:00 p.m.
