
Hargrave Military Defeats ECU Jayvees 22-19

GREENVILLE, N.C. - A.J. Blue rushed for a game-high 92 yards and completed a 77-yard touchdown strike to Tyshon Goode to lift Hargrave Military Academy to a 22-19 victory over the East Carolina JV squad Thursday night at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium.
In a game that saw three lead changes, Blue scored the winning touchdown with 4:03 remaining in the game when he scampered in from one yard out just before completing a two-point conversion to Devin Figaro.
ECU true-freshman Robert Jones put the Pirates on the board early, 2-0, in the first quarter when he stopped Onterio McCalebb for a two-yard loss that resulted in a safety.
The Pirates, who took a 16-14 lead into the half, started a scoring frenzy in the second quarter by both teams when junior quarterback Taylor Mazzone scored from 29-yards out to put ECU up 9-0.
Hargrave answered ECU's drive on the next possession when Blue hooked up with Goode on a 77-yard half-back option pass. Quarterback Kevin Newsome completed the two-point conversion on a three-yard run over the right tackle cutting into the lead 9-8.
Darius Polk put the Tigers up 14-9 when after intercepting a Mazzone pass that went for an 18-yard score.
ECU regained the lead with 1:05 remaining in the half when D.J. McFadden , who replaced and injured Mazzone, found Javon Brumsey from 13-yards out making the score 16-14.
Ben Ryan extended the Pirates lead to 19-14 after connecting on a 20-yard field goal in the third quarter with 1:40 left on the clock.
Mazzone completed 10-of-20 passes for 115 yards, while McFadden was 6-for-8 for 62 yards with one score. Junior J.R. Rogers was ECU's top rusher after picking up 41 yards on 16 carries.
Defensively, redshirt freshmen Cliff Perryman and Matt Thompson led the Pirates with seven stops each.
