GREENVILLE, N.C. - Basketball coaches from 40 high and junior high schools throughout North Carolina and Virginia were able to learn from each other and from the East Carolina coaching staff at the first ECU Basketball Coaching Clinic held recently in Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum.
"John Moseley did a fantastic job organizing our first coaching clinic here," said Pirate head coach Mack McCarthy. "Over 100 outstanding coaches from the region took advantage of what I thought was a great clinic.
"They were able to see a "real" practice, hear from each of our outstanding staff members and were welcomed to ECU by our athletic director Terry Holland. We really appreciate the motivated coaches who attended the clinic"
The coaches in attendance observed a three-hour practice in the morning before breaking for lunch and returning for four additional sessions with the Pirate assistant coaches.
Following a question and answer session with coach McCarthy, Michael Perry explained defensive strategies, Larry Epperly focused upon building an offense and Darryl LaBarrie demonstrated several individual drills.
Strength and conditioning coach Danny Wheel also demonstrated proper weight lifting techniques and exercises specifically designed for basketball.
