
Stephanie Turner Named To All-Academic Squad

IRVING, Texas – During her two-and-a-half years at East Carolina, success has come to junior right side hitter Stephanie Turner both on and off the court. As a result of her hard work, she was named to the C-USA All-Academic Team, according to an announcement made by the league office Thursday afternoon. In order to be considered for the all-academic team, student-athletes must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or better and be a starter or key reserve on the team.
Turner currently leads the team in kills with 229, an average of 2.10 per set, service aces with 27 and points with 281.5. She is also second on the team in digs with 212 and fourth in blocks with 48. On the year, Turner has led, or tied for the team lead, in kills 11 times and in service aces12 times. She has recorded a double-double four times, including in back-to-back matches at Southern Miss and UCF, giving her the second-most on the team.
In the classroom she excels as well, finishing with a 3.8 GPA twice and currently posting an overall GPA of 3.59. She has received recognition on East Carolina University’s and the Athletics Director’s honor roll all four semesters. C-USA has recognized her academic achievements in the past as well, receiving a Commissioner’s Academic Medal as a sophomore and being a member of the Commissioner’s honor roll in both of her previous years. Finally, Turner was a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, an honor society for high-achieving freshmen and sophomores.
Tulane and Memphis led C-USA by placing two representatives each on the All-Academic Team while Houston, Marshall, Rice, Southern Miss, UAB and UCF joined East Carolina with one student-athlete each. In all, four seniors, two juniors and five sophomores make up the 2008 team.
