GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina punter Matt Dodge picked up his second post-season honor this week after being named Honorable Mention All-America by SI.com.
Dodge, who was named third-team All-Conference USA by Phil Steele Magazine, stands fourth in C-USA and 16th nationally in punting average (43.5), while ranking among the career NCAA active leaders in average (11th) and punts per game (11th).
On the season the Morehead City, N.C. native has punted 65 balls for 2,825 yards landing 18 inside the 20-yard line. Against Tulsa he booted a career-best 73-yarder punt setting a new C-USA Championship Game record, one of four records he established on the afternoon.
In 26 career games, he has amassed 6,132 yards on 145 punts for a 42.3 average, which currently ranks fourth on the school's all-time punting charts. A year ago Dodge set the single-season record for punt yards with 3,307.
Dodge and the Pirates will return to campus on Dec. 26 after a 10-day break to continue with bowl preparations that will pit ECU against Kentucky in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl Friday, Jan. 2.
