IRVING, Texas - After an impressive performance against No. 19 Virginia on Saturday, senior guard LaCoya Terry was named the Conference USA Player-of-the-Week, according to an announcement by the league Monday afternoon.
Terry torched the nets for 25 points in the 80-67 loss versus the Cavaliers, her second-highest output of the season and 14th-straight double-digit scoring effort. She also finished with 7-for-7 efficiency from the free throw line and a team-high eight rebounds, narrowly missing a double-double. The 25-point outburst kept her in first-place in C-USA scoring average as the Hepzibah, Ga. native is netting 19.4 points per game. Terry even bested Preseason All-ACC player Monica Wright, out-scoring the junior 25-23.
The selection marks her first weekly honor of the season and second of her career. Terry also earned the accolade last season on Dec. 9 as she led the Lady Pirates to an 89-82 victory over No. 24 N.C. State, the program's first-ever win over a nationally-ranked opponent, with a double-double (19 points, 10 assists).
The Lady Pirates return to the court Sunday, Dec. 14 as they face former CAA rival UNC Wilmington. The game is scheduled for 4 p.m. inside Trask Coliseum.
