Days' Double-Double Lifts ECU Past Eagles

GREENVILLE, N.C. -Nicole Days' third career double-double, including a personal-best 16 points, led the Lady Pirates to a 68-63 victory over Southern Miss Friday evening at Minges Coliseum. ECU improves to 11-13 overall, 5-6 in Conference USA action while the Lady Eagles fall to 14-10, 5-6 in league play.
After jumping out to the early 14-6 lead, Southern Miss put together a 11-0 run, taking their first lead of the game, 17-14, at the 7:46 mark. Nicole Days' jumper at the 7:33 mark cut the Southern Miss lead down to one, 17-16. Pauline Love's three-pointer increased the Lady Eagle lead back out to four. Days' putback gave the Lady Pirates their first lead in over five minutes, as ECU took the 23-22 advantage with 3:49 remaining in the half. Days' bucket sparked a 9-2 run to end the half, taking the 30-24 lead into the locker room.
The Lady Pirates never trailed in the second half, leading by as many as 14 at one point. Southern Miss pulled within five, at 59-54, with 2:54 remaining in the contest, but free throws down the stretch sealed the game for the Lady Pirates, as they went on to win 68-63.
Three Lady Pirates scored in double figures on the night, with LaCoya Terry leading the way with 18. Terry is now just one point shy of the 1,000 point mark, and will be the second Lady Pirate to reach the milestone this season when she hits. Days finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds while Allison Spivey chipped in ten. Stephanie Helgeson led the Lady Eagles with 21 points while Love added 14 points and 14 rebounds.
UCF comes to Greenville on Sunday, Feb. 17 for the East Carolina Think Pink game. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game and anyone who does wear pink will be admitted for free. Also, anyone under the age of 18 will also be admitted for free. Tip-off is slated for 2:00 p.m.
