GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina moved one step closer to the official end of preseason camp by completing its last two-a-day schedule Monday morning and evening on Hight Field inside the Cliff Moore Practice Complex.
The Pirates worked for two hours in shells during the morning session before returning in full gear for another two-hour practice under the lights. Head coach Skip Holtz will close camp with a single workout early Tuesday afternoon before returning to a traditional in-season schedule Wednesday, which also marks the first day of classes on the East Carolina University campus.
"I think we've gotten the most out of the two-a-days," Holtz said. "Everyone has worked hard and we've had spirited practices. I have been pleased with the focus, intensity and enthusiasm during camp. The depth is starting to come around at the linebacking and wide receiver positions, and the growth has been good throughout. We are obviously going to need the next week of practice to get prepared for Virginia Tech. We have a long way to go but I'm encouraged."
Prior to implementing offensive and defensive game plans to ready themselves for their matchup against the Hokies Aug. 30, the Pirates keyed on plenty of team work, ball movement, third down and distance, redzone efficiency drills and field goal reps during the sessions.
NOTES: After Tuesday's workout, the Pirates will celebrate the end of camp by conducting their Fourth Annual Talent Show ...
