GREENVILLE, N.C. - For the first time this season, East Carolina headed out for its daily afternoon practice session wearing shoulder pads before the Pirates completed their third workout of fall camp on Hight Field inside the Cliff Moore Practice Complex Sunday.
The Pirates, who started fall practice Friday, Aug. 1, will follow Sunday's practice with single workouts at the practice facility through Tuesday before conducting the first of three two-a-day periods Wednesday, Aug. 6.
Head coach Skip Holtz and staff guided ECU through a traditional two-and-a-half-hour practice which emphasized all facets of offensive and defensive team work, including repetitions with the Pirates' schemes and alignments.
"Today was another good practice," said Holtz. "The weather was a little nicer and we were able to take advantage and get plenty of reps on both sides of the ball. Through the first three days of camp I'm pleased with the effort, intensity and enthusiasm and like where we are right now as a team."
The Pirates will spend Monday's workout in shells (shoulder pads, helmets and shorts) before putting on full gear for the first time Tuesday night.
NOTES: Monday's Practice Time: 6:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.; Season Opener: Aug. 30 vs. Virginia Tech (12 noon) in Charlotte, N.C. (Bank of America Stadium).
