HOUSTON (AP) - Aubrey Coleman scored 23 points while Marcus Cousin and Qa'rraan Calhoun each had double-doubles to lead Houston to an 85-67 victory over East Carolina on Wednesday night.
Cousin scored 18 points and grabbed 13 rebounds while Calhoun scored 12 points and had 10 rebounds for Houston (12-4, 3-1 Conference USA). Kelvin Lewis scored 16 points and DaShaun Williams had 12 for Houston.
Sam Hinnant scored 22 points for the Pirates (9-8, 1-3) while Darrius Morrow scored 12 and Jamar Abrams added 10. Brock Young had 12 assists to go along with eight points in the loss.
With the game tied at 10-all at the first media timeout, Houston proceeded to go on a 19-6 run over the next seven minutes to take a 13-point lead with 9:07 left before halftime. A 3-pointer by Hinnant got ECU back within 10, 33-23, with 6:45 left in the first half.
However, the Cougars scored the next nine points to take 19-point lead and held a 20-point advantage at halftime, 51-31.
The Cougars maintained a 20-point lead most of the second half before claiming an 18-point victory.
ECU returns to action Saturday, Jan. 24, against SMU in Dallas. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. EST.
