Coach Mack McCarthy Tulane Post-Game Quotes
East Carolina Players Tulane Post-Game Quotes
East Carolina Head Coach Mack McCarthy
On What Allowed The Team To Win
"I thought we did enough things defensively that allowed us to win. Probably the key to the game was getting Robinson Louisme in foul trouble. We attacked the rim and we kind of challenged our guys to do that. I thought we also did a nice job of getting to the free throw line and we out-rebounded them, too. Part of that was with Louisme out of the ball game we were a little bit better matched up."
On Guarding Kevin Sims
"He's a really solid player, but we tried to take a few things away from him. Ironically, the one basket that he made, he drove left a long way, which he normally doesn't do. That was a big basket. He had a chance to make another big basket, but we contested him well.
"I thought resting Brock Young and having a fresh Brock on the floor helped. Having Jontae Sherrod give us some quality minutes enabled us to defend him a little bit better."
On Tulane's Team
"They're solid. They don't beat themselves. They throw it to the block and have nice balance. For us to shoot 33 free throws and out-rebound them 38-31 is a pretty good night for us."
On ECU's Defense
"We still have a long way to go. Tulane got to the rim too many times, in the first half especially. But we were playing some defenses where we had some breakdowns in communications, not necessarily in coverage. The design was OK but the communication wasn't OK.
"When we stopped turning the ball over and we were playing five-on-five in the half-court, they went pretty deep in the shot clock a lot of times. They made some shots, but if you can make them go deep in the shot clock, you've done a pretty good job."
Tulane Head Coach Dave Dickerson
On The Loss
"That was a very disappointing loss for our team. We thought we had control of the game in the first half. But hats off to Coach Mack, he has done a heck of a job with this program. He's got good players. I thought we put a little bit of pressure on them there at the end, but we just were not good enough to win the game. They made their free throws; we didn't make our free throws. They made plays; we did not make plays. I thought we lost the game in the first eight minutes of the second half."
On His Team's Effort
"Our guys fought and hopefully we can continue to compete the way we did tonight and play as hard as we did with as much passion as we did."
On Playing On The Road
"This is a very good conference and whenever you get a chance to get a game on the road, you have to try and win it. Coming as close as we did, you have to be disappointed. I don't want to give my kids any false hope or pride. If we could have played solid for the first five or six minutes of the second half than we wouldn't have lost control of the game.
"East Carolina is going to beat a lot of people this year, especially in this arena."
Senior Sam Hinnant
On Bouncing Back After Four Losses
"I've been in the gym all week trying to shoot myself out of this slump. I'm just glad we won tonight. I was really pushing to get to the free throw line and it worked. Hopefully we can move on from here.
"The four losses got us ready for this game. This is what really matters now that it's a conference game. We came together. Last year we would have broken apart and went our separate ways but we came together in practice every day and worked hard."
Sophomore Brock Young
On Guarding Kevin Sims
"Before the game we had individual film sessions with Coach LaBarrie and we broke down all of Tulane's plays and what he likes to do and what he doesn't like to do. We used that in the game and it worked very well."
