BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The East Carolina volleyball team looks to snap a three-game skid and win its first Conference USA road match when it faces UAB at 2 p.m. Sunday at Bartow Arena.
The Pirates suffered their third consecutive sweep Friday night, falling at Memphis (21-25, 14-25, 18-25). Sophomore Britney Roper led the offense with 12 kills while senior Stephanie Turner contributed seven. Sophomore Nicole Jones paced the back row, picking up eight digs to go along with four each for Turner and Lizzy Bruin.
The Tigers hit well as a team, producing a .400 mark as compared to just .173 for the Pirates. Memphis also out-dug ECU 29-19 while also enjoying a 3-1 blocking advantage.
UAB sits just under the .500 mark at 9-10 overall and just over the plateau at 3-2 in league play. Andrea Lalic paces the Blazer offense with 216 kills (3.00 a set) while Heather Thomas has recorded a squad-high 354 digs (4.72 per frame).
The Blazers were scheduled to face Marshall on Friday, but the match was postponed due to illness that affected most of the Herd squad.
