GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina volleyball team looks to close out the 2009 season with a win as it faces Marshall at 12 noon Saturday at Minges Coliseum. The Pirates are also set to honor five seniors in a pregame ceremony.
Senior setter Hannah Fenker surely has a lot to play for in the match, as she stands just 15 assists and seven digs away from becoming the first player in program history to record 2,000 assists and 1,000 digs in a career.
The Herd owns a 3-1 win over ECU this season, as Marshall took the contest in Huntington Sept. 19 by 25-21, 29-31, 25-20, 25-22 scores. The Herd owns a 9-1 lead in the all-time series while the Pirates captured their first win over Marshall last season at the East Carolina Classic in a 3-1 decision.
In the matchup earlier this season, Stephanie Turner led the offense, killing 13 balls while Melissa Zentner, Britney Roper and Lizzy Bruin contributed 11, 10 and 10, respectively. Bruin and Fenker also showed well at the net, combining for 11 block assists, including a career-high five by Fenker. At libero, Amanda Lutzow picked up 13 digs to pace the defense.
The Herd held the edge in hitting (.288-.184) and digs (59-48) while the Pirates out-blocked Marshall 9.5-5.0.
