
Pirates Fall To Deacons In Greensboro

GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) - Al-Farouq Aminu scored 23 points, fellow sophomore Tony Woods matched a career high with 12 and Wake Forest defeated East Carolina 89-58 on Sunday.
Ishmael Smith scored 14 points for the Demon Deacons (2-0). They never trailed, shot 54 percent, held East Carolina to 24.6 percent shooting and turned 22 turnovers into 25 points.
Brock Young had 17 points, Darrius Morrow scored 12 and Chad Wynn added 11 for the Pirates (1-1). They shot 19 percent in the first half, got no closer than 20 points after the opening moments of the second and fell to 0-7 against Wake Forest.
The Deacons scored the game's first five points and never looked back. Wake held a nine-point advantage at the first media timeout and stretched its lead to 12 with 8:34 remaining. The Pirates then made a charge to cut the Deacon lead to six behind a three-point basket from Erin Straughn and four points from Morrow. ECU trailed 24-18 with 7:32 left before intermission.
Wake Forest then outscored ECU 22-10 to end the half and held an 18-point lead at the break, 46-28.
After East Carolina's bench was assessed a technical foul after the halftime buzzer, Wake Forest began the second period with a pair of free throws from C.J. Harris to push its lead to 48-28.
East Carolina did most of its damage at the charity stripe. The Pirates went 27-for-40 for 67.5 percent at the line.
The Pirates return to action Tuesday, Nov. 17, against Campbell at 7 p.m.
