
Pirates Come Up Short Against Tulane, 73-64

NEW ORLEANS -- Kevin Sims scored 18 points and Robinson Louisme recorded a double-double to lead Tulane in a 73-64 win over East Carolina on Wednesday night.
Kris Richard added 14 points for the Green Wave (10-13, 4-6 Conference USA), who snapped a three-game losing streak. Asim McQuenn finished with 13 points, and Louisme scored 10 points and tallied 13 rebounds.
Brock Young led the Pirates (12-11, 4-6) with 21 points, and Chris Turner had 11. Young was 3-for-3 from beyond the arc.
The Pirates led 18-17 with 5:36 left in the first half, but Tulane went on a 16-3 run from that point to take a 33-21 halftime lead.
The Green Wave pushed its lead out to 16 points, 48-32, with 11:25 remaining.
Consecutive baskets from Jontae Sherrod and four free throws by Young and Chad Wynn cut the Pirates' deficit to eight, 48-40, in less than two minutes.
Tulane responded with a 12-4 run over the next four minutes to push its lead back to 16.
The Pirates got within nine on Young's third 3-pointer of the game with 53 seconds remaining and fell by that final margin.
Tulane shot 47.2 percent from the field (25-of-53) in the win compared to just a 37 percent mark (17-of-46) for the Pirates.
ECU returns to the court Saturday, Feb. 14, against Rice. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum.
